In response, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Mangan District, headed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Chungthang, conducted an urgent inspection on July 22 and 23.

Nine tourists have been evacuated so far, led by District Magistrate Hem Kumar Chettri and officials from Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Forest Departments, along with the Travel Agent Association of Sikkim (TAAS).

Between Wednesday and Thursday morning, Mangan district in North Sikkim experienced 220mm of rain, leading to multiple landslides that claimed at least six lives in Pakshep and Ambhithang areas, with power and communication lines disrupted.

The lifeline connecting North Sikkim to Kalimpong in West Bengal, National Highway 10, has been completely cut off due to landslides.
