The NEET 2024 re-exam results, released by the National Testing Agency (NTA), have shown a notable reduction in the number of toppers from 67 to 61. This follows the re-examination conducted on June 23, where none of the students managed to secure a perfect score.

Amidst controversies surrounding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate 2024 (NEET-UG), Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of CPI(M), has called for the scrapping of the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the exams. Yechury criticised the agency, alleging widespread irregularities that have adversely affected millions of aspiring students across India.

The Supreme Court has once again declined to halt the counselling process for the NEET-UG 2024 examination, though it has issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam. A vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti has tagged the new pleas with existing ones and scheduled a hearing for July 8.

In response to allegations of irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate issues related to the National Testing Agency (NTA). The committee aims to improve transparency and enhance the functioning of the NTA.

These incidents have cast a long shadow over the credibility of the NTA, the agency responsible for conducting these critical exams. The NTA's mandate to ensure fair and transparent examinations is now under severe scrutiny, raising questions about the efficacy of current safeguards and the accountability of those in charge.

Gupta said, "The matter pertains to the future of lakhs of students across the country. Students and their parents are worried. So many questions are unanswered, but the government is not speaking up."

After Tamil Nadu, Karnataka has began to consider deliberations on the injustices faced by state students in NEET-UG examination.

"The examination has been plagued by technical glitches, malpractice, and unfair means in certain test centres. Organised corruption is evident from arrests made in Bihar, Gujarat, and Haryana, revealing a pattern of malpractice in BJP-ruled states," he said.
