According to officials, the FIR was filed by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) unit under provisions of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma announced this during the two-day Regional Capacity Building Workshop and Conference at the State Convention Centre in Shillong.

The request by the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) was made in a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in view of the model code of conduct.

It said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) committee has been formed to probe the matter thoroughly. Notably, there is a commendable presence of female officers entrusted with conducting investigations and ensuring sensitivity and empathy in handling such cases, it added.

Patra also shot off a letter to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, alleging that Bhattacharyya, the TMC nominee from Tamluk Lok Sabha seat and head of the party’s social media cell, made the details of her personal information and bank accounts public.

Expressing dismay over the behavior exhibited by Shrinate and Ahir, NCW Chief Rekha Sharma emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity and respect of women, “Such behavior is intolerable and goes against the dignity of women,” stated Sharma in a letter to the ECI, demanding immediate action.
