The incident drew criticism by the BJP which claimed that some people were trying to create issues in the educational institutions run by Hindu and Christian communities. 

Queried on the attack, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said, “Such incidents indicate we are still not fully aware of our own traditions and cultural heritage. Conferences like this will help us in understanding what our traditions are.” In his address, Khan said though people follow different faiths and traditions, they are ultimately united by their soul.

On Monday, the Gujarat High Court declined to initiate suo motu cognizance regarding the assault on foreign national students of Gujarat University while they were observing prayers (Namaz) in their hostel on Saturday night.

Two persons, identified as Hitesh Mevada and Bharat Patel, were arrested on Sunday after students hailing from different foreign countries were attacked by a group of persons in the (government-run) Gujarat University’s hostel for offering namaz there.

Images circulated on social media depicted damaged bikes, shattered laptops, and vandalised rooms. Some images showed individuals throwing stones at the hostel and verbally attacking the foreign students. 

“If they have rights to offer namaz on roads, we have rights too to chant Hanuman Chalisa on the roads as well. Our main demand is to bring the sub-inspector back on duty and to cancel his suspension orders,” a Hindu Raksha Dal leader told sources.

“This incident has shaken everyone. It tells how much dignity and respect Muslims have. I want to ask the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), because law and order in Delhi is under the Union government. I want to ask the Prime Minister, and Bharatiya Janata Party people — the (person), who was kicked and insulted, belongs to which family?” the AIMIM chief asked.

Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Tomar shoved and kicked a few people offering namaz on a road in the north Delhi area on Friday, leading to a protest by hundreds of locals against the force, and suspension of the accused with immediate effect.
