In response to the increasing global cases of Mpox, the central government of India has ramped up its vigilance. This proactive measure involves stringent monitoring at airports, ports, and border crossings to manage and prevent the potential spread of the virus.

Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda led a review on the current Monkeypox situation and India's preparedness, following the World Health Organization's (WHO) declaration of Monkeypox as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

The 2022-23 global mpox outbreak happened despite repeated calls from African researchers for increased global investment in diagnostic, therapeutic and infection prevention tools for mpox.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that the man arrived in Pakistan on August 3 and developed symptoms shortly after reaching Peshawar. The diagnosis was verified by Khyber Medical University on August 13.

Sweden has confirmed its first case of the mpox Clade I strain, a more dangerous variant of the viral infection that spreads through close contact. This marks the first time this particular strain has been detected outside of Africa.

Clade lb, a deadlier strain of the virus, has reportedly emerged in other African countries, causing enough concerns for WHO to convene its emergency committee on Wednesday.
