Agath, hailing from Porbandar, Gujarat—the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi—currently resides in Leicester and serves as a Councillor for the Leicester East region. His candidacy is now officially listed on the British Government's website.

Though the move involves the risk of inviting rebellion from those who are denied party tickets, Jagan, seeking a second term in office, is keen to avoid what happened in the neighbouring state.

The grand old party has also requested the Punjab's AAP administration to hold a similar session in the state assembly. 

A charge sheet was filed against Singh on June 15, 2023, under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
