Prayagraj: Hindu sages burn cow-dung cakes as they perform a ritual on the occasion of Basant Panchami festival during the annual religious 'Magh Mela' festival at Sangam, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The Basant Panchami festival marks the arrival of Spring season according to the Hindu lunar calendar. 

An official from the Magh Mela administration revealed that by noon, approximately 25.5 lakh individuals had immersed themselves in the holy waters to mark the auspicious day. 

The wounded were given first-aid at Ganga Hospital located in the mela area and referred to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, Mela officer Dayanand Prasad said.

The official from the Magh Mela administration said people have been flocking to the ghats from various parts of the country and abroad.

More than 20 lakh devotees took a dip at the Sangam -- the confluence of three holy rivers -- on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Monday.
