A hotspot for identity politics, the region sends eight representatives to Lok Sabha

The initiative covered 181 polling booths across Ranchi, part of the 2,377 polling stations set up for the Ranchi Lok Sabha seat election.

The polling station, consisting of six booths at the CM School of Excellence in Bariatu, is adorned with banners and posters featuring hockey players.

West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout in the first two hours of polling at 16.54 per cent while Odisha recorded the lowest at 7.43 per cent, according to the Election Commission (EC).

Odisha's Chief Electoral Officer N B Dhal said voting has been peaceful so far in the 10,581 polling stations, barring some reports of EVM glitches.

Tamluk recorded the highest polling at 19.07%, followed by Bishnupur (18.56%), Ghatal (18.27%), Bankura (17.69%), Jhargram (16.22%), Kanthi (15.45%), Medinipur (14.58%), and Purulia (12.68%).

In addition to Delhi, voting is underway in 14 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, all 10 seats in Haryana, eight seats each in Bihar and West Bengal, six seats in Odisha, four seats in Jharkhand, and one seat in Jammu and Kashmir.

Approximately 82.16 lakh voters are eligible to cast their ballots, with Dhanbad having the highest voter count at 22.85 lakh and Giridih the lowest at 18.64 lakh.

Voters in Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and Bishnupur constituencies are set to exercise their franchise until 6 pm, an official reported.
