Speaking during a discussion in the Assembly on Thursday, Sawant instructed various departments to refrain from disturbing regions prone to landslides.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of potential landslides in 31 sub-divisions in Karnataka, after a red alert for heavy rainfall has also been issued for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the local Met office has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas of the state on Monday and Tuesday. The monsoon activity is expected to increase in the next two to three days, with moderate to heavy precipitation in the state.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. In a post on X, he said, "Relief and rescue work is going on at the site of the accident. I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard. Instructions have been given to provide better treatment to those injured in the accident".

The landslide had blocked the Kishtwar-Paddar road near Nagseni on June 30, halting vehicular movement and impacting essential supplies to the Paddar sub-division.

Authorities from the State Disaster Management Department reported on Monday that incessant rainfall has caused devastating landslides, isolating several districts.

The calamity has engulfed 979 villages across 48 revenue circles in 19 districts. The affected districts include Kamrup, South Salmara, Goalpara, Nagaon, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Hojai, Darrang, Nalbari, Karimganj, Udalguri, Tamulpur, Hailakandi, Biswanath, Barpeta, Cachar, Baksa, Bajali, and Sonitpur.
