In Kallakurichi district, at least 20 more people died on Thursday, after consuming spurious liquor, taking the death toll to 33.

The massive fire which occurred at a seven-storey building in the city of Mangaf on July 12 was home to 196 migrant workers, mostly Indians.

Rai was among 49 people killed in the fire in the Al-Mangaf building on June 12. A majority of those killed were Indians; the remaining were Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, and Nepali nationals.  

Rai is survived by his wife, two married daughters, and a minor son.

During the conversation, Jaishankar emphasised the need for the swift return of the mortal remains of those who perished in the tragic event.

The total number of people killed in the Al-Mangaf building was 49 and 42 of them were learnt to be Indians; the remaining ones are Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian and Nepali nationals.

Videos surfacing on social media showed locals saying most of the workers living in the gutted building were Indian.

The building reportedly had nearly 160 people living in it. They are workers of the same company and many of them are believed to be Indians.
