Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh led the charge by visiting Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, where he met with doctors and medical students. 

The incident occurred around midnight when a group of approximately 40 individuals, posing as protesters, vandalised the emergency department, nursing station, and medicine store, damaging CCTV cameras and disrupting a demonstration stage.

The trouble began around 11 PM when students of RG Kar Medical College were holding a peaceful ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest march, led primarily by women.

Indian-origin doctors, many of whom received training in India, expressed their anger and sorrow and called for immediate action in the case of the alleged rape and murder of a young medical trainee in Kolkata.

The advisory, issued in response to the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College, sparked protests among students and healthcare workers, leading to its cancellation.

After Calcutta high Court transferred the case to the CBI, a team of 12 members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) paid a visit to the residence of the victim today.

The tragic incident, which has sparked outrage across the country, saw the medical fraternity rallying in support of the victim.

The CBI team, reportedly, includes a specialised medical and forensic team from Delhi.

Writing via social media platform X, the leader said, "Tomorrow I am going to join the protesters particularly because I’ve a daughter and little granddaughter like millions of Bengali families. We must rise to the occasion. Enough of cruelty against women. Let’s resist together. Come what may." 

A delegation of FORDA (Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association) met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda at his residence on Tuesday night. The association said the decision to end the strike, effective from Wednesday morning, was taken in the interest of the welfare of patients.
