Congress leader Kishori Lal Sharma is currently leading by a significant margin of over 88,000 votes in the Amethi parliamentary seat against the BJP's Smriti Irani, who defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019.

KL Sharma, a loyalist of the Congress party, officially threw his hat into the ring for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat on Friday, submitting his nomination papers at the collectorate amid a show of support from local party leaders.

After days of intense speculation and heated debate regarding whether the Congress would nominate members of the Gandhi family for these two seats, the decision was made.
