Shubhkaran, aged 21, succumbed to injuries sustained during clashes at the Khanauri border point on the Punjab-Haryana border on February 21.

Shubhkaran (21), a native of Bathinda, was killed and 12 security personnel were injured in clashes at Khanauri on the Punjab-Haryana border on February 21. The incident occurred when some protesting farmers were trying to head towards police barricades, put up to halt their "Delhi Chalo" march.

Earlier today, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) observed "Black Friday" on February 23 after the death of a farmer at Khanauri Border during the ongoing protest. The announcement was made by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait.  

The victim has been identified as Subhkaran Singh, a resident of Baloke village in Punjab's Bathinda district, farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa said.

On Monday, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said, "After holding discussion (on the Centre's proposal) in our two forums, it has been decided that the Centre's proposal is not in the interest of farmers and we reject this proposal."

Farmers plan to position their tractors along the highways leading to Delhi on February 26 and 27, demonstrating solidarity with protesting farmers and their key demands, including the minimum support price.

On the fifth day of their "Delhi Chalo" march -- called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha -- the farmers stayed put at the two border points of Punjab and Haryana as they pressed the Centre to accept their demands, including a legal guarantee of a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.

The Gramin Bharat Bandh commenced at 6 am and is scheduled to conclude at 4 pm, with farmers participating in a widespread chakka jam on main roads across the nation from 12 pm. In Punjab, the closure of most state and national highways is expected for four hours.

Many farmer bodies including Bharti Kisan Union (Rajewal), Bharatiya Kisan Union (Dakunda), Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal), Bharatiya Kisan Union (Qadian) and Kirti Kisan Union are taking part in the bandh.

Among the farmer leaders taking part in the meeting were SKM (Non-Political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher.

Authorities in Haryana have fortified the state's borders with Punjab at many places in Ambala, Jind, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra and Sirsa using concrete blocks, iron nails and barbed wire to scuttle the proposed march.

Thousands of tractors from different regions of Punjab will assemble, with plans to reach midway by Monday afternoon. The farmers intend to sleep overnight in their tractors on roadsides and proceed towards Delhi based on the outcome of ongoing talks.
