Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said in Parliament that "We are making all efforts to start civilian flights to Kargil... if some airlines express readiness to provide connectivity from Kargil to Srinagar or Jammu, we are prepared to complete the remaining work and facilitate civilian services."

Tashi Namgyal says he saw a few men breaking rocks and clearing the snow on the mountain, but it was the absence of any footsteps on the Indian side that sent alarm bells ringing. Namgyal forgot all about his yak and rushed back to inform the Indian Army outpost.
