The allocated amount is substantially lower than Rs 1803.01 crore earmarked in 2023-24.

In her previous Budget, Sitharaman had introduced five major announcements on personal income tax to benefit the middle class. She reiterated the option for taxpayers to choose between the new and old tax regimes, proposing an increase in the rebate limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh in the new tax regime.

This time, Sitharaman will equate the record of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai — he has the highest number of budgets presented, which stands at 10 — who had tabled six full-term budgets, including one interim in a row.
