While China maintains these are research vessels, Indian concerns lie in their potential dual-use capability, particularly activities related to tracking ballistic missiles.

Speaking at a press conference held at the newly-built Nausena Bhawan in New Delhi, Admiral Kumar highlighted the Navy's recent efforts in combating piracy and enhancing maritime security over the past 100 days.

As per reports from the Maldivian media, one of the agreements entails China offering military assistance to the Maldives without any associated costs. 

The Maldives government had granted permission for the research vessel to dock at Male port on January 23, citing a need for replenishment.

The vessel's state-of-the-art equipment, including deep-sea and shallow water multibeam echo sounders, autonomous underwater vehicles, and advanced sonars, underscores its capabilities in ensuring maritime security.
