This decision comes in response to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) red alert for the city and surrounding districts.

Most parts of the country — Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra, some parts of West Bengal, and Bihar — will receive rainfall owing to the progress of the southwest monsoon from June 20.

A cyclonic circulation situated over northeast Assam, coupled with strong southwesterly and southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal, is likely to impact weather conditions in the northeastern states.
