On Sunday, ‘INDIA’ leaders got together and held a rally in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, to “save democracy”, which was actually and primarily organised to protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the ‘Delhi Liquor Scam’.

The inherent contradictions can be judged from the fact that two prominent alliance constituents, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have already announced their candidates for two important parliamentary constituencies Baharampur (by the TMC) and Wayanad (by the CPM).

Speaking at a public rally during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, Gandhi criticised the Central government's handling of the farmers' agitation and pledged support for their cause.

On the ongoing speculation surrounding TMC’s stance within the opposition front, spokesperson Kunal Ghosh emphasised that Banerjee only advocated the party’s solo participation in the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal owing to “unreasonable demands” from the Congress.

CM Banerjee harboured doubts on Kumar’s commitment to stick with the Opposition alliance, which is why she had expressed her resentment over Kumar being the convener of the alliance.

Top leaders of some of the INDIA bloc constituents--Congress, DMK, the Left parties and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi attended a "Democracy will win" conference organised by the VCK here on Friday.

The move, led by TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, has created a scenario where the TMC and the BJP are likely to consolidate votes, while the Congress-Left combine becomes a third contender, potentially influencing the dynamics, especially in minority-dominated areas and seats with narrow margins.

Claiming that Chowdhury was the reason the alliance did not work out in West Bengal, Derek O’Brien said the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) had many detractors but only two — the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chowdhury — have repeatedly spoken out against the bloc.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Banerjee’s party TMC is an “important pillar” of the opposition alliance.
