The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of potential landslides in 31 sub-divisions in Karnataka, after a red alert for heavy rainfall has also been issued for Wednesday.

According to IMD, more spells of heavy to very heavy rain are likely over northwest India and the western parts of the peninsular India during the next two-three days and over the northeast during the next five days.

Northwest India recorded its warmest June since 1901, with a mean temperature of 31.73 degrees Celsius, surpassing the long-term average.

Eleven districts in Punjab and Chandigarh are expected to experience rain and strong winds - Mansa, Sangrur, Barnala, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, S A S Nagar, Bathinda, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, Ludhiana.

The weather department also forecast thunderstorms over parts of NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema for five days, starting from June 26.

Punjab's State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) issued a warning concerning the prevailing heatwave conditions, forecasting severe heatwave conditions until June 17th, 1:30 PM.

Weather conditions are anticipated to ameliorate starting Thursday, with a gradual reduction in severe heatwave conditions prevailing over Northwest and Central India.

Rajasthan is bracing for a bit of a break from the scorching heat wave that has gripped the state, as per a senior official from the IMD’s Rajasthan Meteorological Centre. By the end of May, temperatures are expected to drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius, offering some relief to the residents.

The Met office has issued red alerts for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts for Sunday and Monday, and sounded orange alerts for four other districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam.
