The Ministry of Statistics survey indicates robust growth in household consumption expenditure in rural and urban India over the last decade. Rural per capita expenditure surged by over 40%, reaching Rs 2,008, while urban expenditure rose by 33%, reaching Rs 3,510.

Rajasthan's households spent the most on 'milk and milk products' at 33.2%, closely followed by Haryana (33.1%) and Punjab (32.3%). Kerala again led in 'egg, fish, and meat' consumption, with 19.8% of total food expenditure.

Telangana emerged as the leading spender in urban areas, boasting an average expenditure of Rs 8,251. However, when including Chandigarh, Sikkim, Goa, and Arunachal Pradesh in the comparison, Telangana ranks fifth.

In a post on ‘X’ in Hindi, Kharge said that after 10 years of “deep sleep”, the Modi government has finally come out with an “election-inspired” survey on public expenditure and income.
