Videos of clash from Uttarakhand circulated on social media. In West Bengal, BJP accused TMC activists of assaulting its booth agents.

"People must question these Independents, why they resigned and put the economic burden of by-polls on the public when they were elected for five years. They could have opposed the government in the state Assembly without resigning or joining BJP," Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu mentioned in all his poll rallies in the three constituencies.

The three assembly seats - Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh - fell vacant after the resignation of three Independent MLAs who had voted for the BJP candidate in Rajya Sabha elections held in February and later joined the party.

CM Sukhu seemed to be placating the Cong rebel, Dr Rajesh Sharma in Dehra, ensuring his presence at the nomination filing by the Congress nominee.

At the meeting, the Congress leader became emotional and expressed his disappointment and frustration.

Over 70 vote-counting centres have been set up in Himachal Pradesh.

Independent MLAs Hoshiyar Singh (Dehra), Ashish Sharma (Hamirpur), and K L Thakur (Nalagarh) had voted in favour of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan in the February 27 Rajya Sabha elections along with six Congress rebels. 

Polling is being held for four Lok Sabha seats and six Assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh today.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is trying to corner the Congress rebels, contesting on BJP ticket now in six Assembly constituencies, by linking their revolt to personal ambition and money at the instance of BJP, rebels defensive in public.

Singh joined the Congress in New Delhi in the presence of the party's in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajeev Shukla, they said. 

AAP had contested Lok Sabha polls in the state in 2014 but drew a blank and its candidates lost by huge margins. But its candidates can dent the Congress vote bank in assembly by-elections in six constituencies going to polls simultaneously on June 1.

"A written complaint was sent to the Election Commission immediately but the commission neither took cognisance of it nor initiated any action on it," he said.
