The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for isolated places across Telangana.

The weather forecast outlines specific warnings for each day till July 18. This is accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema.

The Dakshina Kannada administration put the district on ‘Red Alert’ on Tuesday following which the schools and PU colleges were closed.

Authorities from the State Disaster Management Department reported on Monday that incessant rainfall has caused devastating landslides, isolating several districts.

Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said it has been decided to postpone the Yatra for the safety of pilgrims.

India, the world's top producer of critical crops such as rice, wheat, and sugarcane, recorded an 11 percent rainfall deficit in June, with northwest India experiencing a shortfall of 33 percent. However, heavy rain in the first week of July compensated for the shortfall but caused flooding in many northeastern states.

Tragically, two deaths have been reported during this year’s Yatra due to cardiac arrests on the Baltal route in June. The deceased was a Sevadar from Haryana and a pilgrim from Jharkhand. 

Heavy rain disrupted daily life in vast swathes of north India, including Himachal and Uttarakhand, while the flood situation in Assam remained grim with major rivers flowing above the danger mark and nearly 24 lakh people affected.

The forecast predicts continued heavy rain across North India, impacting states like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar over the next few days. Coastal regions of Gujarat and the West Coast are also expected to experience significant rainfall.

Cyclonic circulations have formed over northeast Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh bordering Bihar, and northwest Uttar Pradesh at lower tropospheric levels, it added.

The northern limit of the monsoon now extends from Mundra in Gujarat to Raxaul in Bihar, signaling its steady advance.

The weather department also forecast thunderstorms over parts of NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema for five days, starting from June 26.
