The recent Haldwani violence in Uttarakhand has gripped the nation's attention, shedding light on a series of disturbing events triggered by the demolition of an illegal mosque in the Banbhoolpura area of the town. 

Northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari announced on Thursday that Wakeel Hassan, a key figure in the Silkyara tunnel rescue mission, whose house was demolished in a recent demolition drive by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), will soon receive a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). 

The recent demolition drive conducted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in Khajoori Khas has stirred controversy, particularly with the razing of the house belonging to Wakeel Hassan, a rat-hole miner who played a pivotal role in the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation.

Abdul Malik, allegedly instrumental in the establishment of the madrassa and vehemently opposing its demolition, fomented violence in Banbhoolpura. 

The violence broke out on February 8 after the demolition of the madrasa in Banbhoolpura. Locals hurled stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police on the day, forcing many personnel to seek refuge at a police station, which the mob then set on fire.

The report claims that the incident was not isolated, but rather the culmination of rising communal tensions fueled by divisive rhetoric and policies.

The clash, which resulted in six fatalities and around 60 injuries, prompted families to move out amidst a curfew enforced in the region.

The administration lifted the curfew in the rest of Haldwani, excluding Banbhoolpura, on Sunday, thereby streamlining essential services for residents.
