The Gujarat government has taken decisive action to address the issue of ragging in higher educational institutions. In a resolution aimed at curbing this menace, the government has introduced stringent penalties not only for perpetrators but also for those who witness or fail to report such incidents.

A delegation from Gambia recently visited the Gujarat University campus to discuss safety measures following an attack on foreign students.

Queried on the attack, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said, “Such incidents indicate we are still not fully aware of our own traditions and cultural heritage. Conferences like this will help us in understanding what our traditions are.” In his address, Khan said though people follow different faiths and traditions, they are ultimately united by their soul.

On Monday, the Gujarat High Court declined to initiate suo motu cognizance regarding the assault on foreign national students of Gujarat University while they were observing prayers (Namaz) in their hostel on Saturday night.

In a distressing incident at the Gujarat University hostel premises, international students were subjected to a violent attack while offering namaz near the facility's block.

Two persons, identified as Hitesh Mevada and Bharat Patel, were arrested on Sunday after students hailing from different foreign countries were attacked by a group of persons in the (government-run) Gujarat University’s hostel for offering namaz there.
