The Supreme Court intervened on Wednesday by halting an order from the Gujarat High Court that mandated the recovery of land allocated to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd in Mundra, Gujarat.

The Gujarat High Court has directed the state government to submit a report on the action taken against the officials of the Morbi municipality in the aftermath of the tragic bridge collapse in October 2022. This incident, which resulted in the death of 135 people, prompted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate and highlight several lapses by the officials.

In a display of rare bipartisan unity, the Gujarat assembly unanimously passed two significant bills on Wednesday: the Gujarat Rents, Hotel and Lodging House Rates Control (Revival of Operation and Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Gujarat University of Transplantation Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2024. 

Ramesh Chandana, who moved the High Court for parole last week, is the second convict in the case to be granted parole after all 11 convicts in the case surrendered at a jail in Godhra town on January 21 following a Supreme Court order.
