The current deluge has claimed 98 lives, while the overall death toll, including floods, landslides, storms, and lightning, stands at 113. Affected individuals are spread across 345 villages in 21 revenue circles.

Speaking to media persons after assessing the flood situation in Kamrup district, Sarma pointed to a cloudburst in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and heavy rainfall in China, Bhutan, and upper Arunachal Pradesh as primary causes of the floods in Assam.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) confirmed three more deaths in the last 24 hours, including two from Tinsukia and one from Dhemaji district.

Traversing the inundated regions in Upper Assam by speedboat, Sarma visited relief camps set up after an embankment breach between Negheriting-Rongagorah Duke and Nikori PWD Road.

The rising waters have severely impacted 61 out of 233 forest camps across the renowned wildlife sanctuary.

In response to the sighting, District Magistrate Dr. P. Uday Praveen, has enforced Section 144 of the CrPC, prohibiting the movement of individuals in and around the affected areas as a precautionary measure.
