Researchers suggest that this "undocumented" quake, potentially measuring 7-8 in magnitude, redirected the river’s main channel in what is now Bangladesh, a region particularly vulnerable to significant seismic activity.

Normally spanning 70 to 80 meters in June, the width of the Ganga has dwindled to a mere 30 to 35 meters, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Efforts to rescue the four children commenced promptly, with boatmen assisting in retrieving them from the river. The victims were swiftly transported to a nearby private hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, all four were declared deceased upon arrival.

An official from the Magh Mela administration revealed that by noon, approximately 25.5 lakh individuals had immersed themselves in the holy waters to mark the auspicious day.
