Supervisory positions to monitor teaching quality, recognition of good and bad teacher performance, and hiring of local volunteers to ensure 'teaching at the right level' as textbook completion mean little if children are way behind curricular standards, reads the survey document.

Despite unfavourable weather conditions affecting vegetable and pulse production, the sector has shown remarkable adaptability. The survey notes that food inflation, although a global phenomenon, has been addressed through various measures.

India's projected GDP growth in the current fiscal year, as per the Economic Survey is, reportedly, lower than the economic growth rate of 8.2 per cent estimated for the previous financial year.

The Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, is set to present the Economic Survey for the year 2023-24 in Parliament on July 22. This marks the beginning of the Budget Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to run until August 12, subject to the needs of government business. The session will include 16 sittings spread over 22 days.
