On a day when Modi addressed four rallies in support of the BJP in West Bengal, O’Brien shared a fact-check report on X and called the prime minister the “Lyin King”.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has ousted Kunal Ghosh from his position as State General Secretary, following his recent praise for BJP candidate Tapas Roy, who defected from the TMC.

“BJP’s filthy tricks destroying institutions like Election Commission of India. Are BJP so nervous to face people that they are turning ECI into a party office to target Opposition? ECI or His Master’s Voice?” He posted on X.

Addressing a press conference here, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien rejected the claims that the West Bengal government did not provide utilisation certificates for central funds and alleged that the Centre was targeting the state as it was ruled by a party opposed to the BJP.

Claiming that Chowdhury was the reason the alliance did not work out in West Bengal, Derek O’Brien said the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) had many detractors but only two — the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chowdhury — have repeatedly spoken out against the bloc.

In an attempt to put a halt to the speculations on TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee attending the Ram Temple consecration ceremony, Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien recalled CM’s earlier quote differentiating festival from religion.

The chairman then allowed Leader of the House Piyush Goyal to move a motion to suspend O'Brien under Rule 256.
