Farmer leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to the ongoing "Delhi Chalo" agitation until their demands are met, marking March 3 as the date for their next course of action.

The agitation took a grim turn last Wednesday when 21-year-old Shubhkaran from Bathinda succumbed to injuries sustained in a clash at Khanauri.

The farmers are also scheduled to carry out tractor rallies on the highways marching towards the national capital on February 26, to be followed by a Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on March 14.

City Magistrate Vikash Kashyap visited the hospital and reported that the farmer sustained minor facial burns and received immediate medical attention. Kashyap mentioned that Brijpal had a loan-related concern, which authorities promised to resolve, following which he took the step.    

The farmers and protesters are using masks and goggles as a shield against tear gas shells.

The two border points of Delhi and Haryana - Tikri and Singhu - are sealed with the heavy deployment of police personnel and multi-layered barricades of concrete and iron nails. Two lanes of the Ghazipur border have also been shut with multi-layer barricades and police personnel.

"With Bhagwant Mann himself of all the people - acting as the lawyer for the farmers, these negotiations were destined to fail because CM Mann had everything to gain from the failures of these talks," he said in a post on X. 

This action aims to compel the Centre to fulfill farmers' demands, which include ensuring a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) on the crops.

The gathering was protesting the police action against the farmers' agitation in New Delhi. 

"If it (Centre) brings out an ordinance, it can bring it overnight, if it wants to. If the government wants a resolution of the farmers' protest, then it should bring an ordinance with immediate effect that it will enact a law on MSP, then discussions can proceed further," Pandher told reporters at the Shambhu border.

The state government previously, extended the suspension of these services for two days on Feb 13. On Tuesday, farmers from Punjab faced tear gas shells at two border points as protesters tried to break past barricades set up by the Haryana Police to stop them from heading to the national capital.

“Farmers protesting in Delhi are being fired upon with tear gas shells and pellets. One such farmer, whose face had been disfigured by rubber bullets, met me. I said you are doing nothing wrong. You are fighting for the country, just like the soldiers do on the borders,” he asserted.
