A former Congress MP, Natwar Singh was Indias’s External Affairs Minister for the period 2004-05 during the UPA-I government led by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Among these 6 candidates, at least 3 are turncoats' - Preneet Kaur, Sushil Kumar Rinku and Ravneet Singh Bittu, and former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Besides, the saffron party also fielded singer and MP from North West Delhi Hans Raj Hans and former MLA Dinesh Singh Babbu. 

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has temporarily suspended the conviction of Congress leader Raj Babbar in a 1996 case of assaulting a polling officer, according to a ruling on Friday by Justice Mohammad Faiz Alam Khan.
