According to Cachar SP Numal Mahatta, the encounter unfolded after receiving intelligence about militant movement in the Krishnapur road area.

The group had issued a statement on Sunday warning government employees to stay away from work, claiming anyone defying their order would be held responsible for "unfortunate consequences." 

The anger escalated, leading to stone-pelting and ultimately, a clash with security forces. Tear gas and gunfire were used to disperse the mob, resulting in casualties and injuries.

The situation in the district remained tense this morning after the offices of the superintendent of police and the deputy commissioner were vandalised, vehicles used by CAPF were torched by a mob and the national flag at the SP office complex was pulled down, an official told reporters.
