Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian declared the decision, citing that ongoing American arms sales to Taiwan, which China views as a renegade province, had severely disrupted the political environment necessary for continued bilateral consultations.

Notably, China considers Taiwan as a rebel province that must be reunified with the mainland, even by force.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed strong opposition to the recent visit of US lawmakers to Taiwan, emphasising that Beijing opposes any military contact between the US and Taiwan and any attempts to arm the island.

China has delivered a stern warning to the United States, cautioning against any support for what it terms as "Taiwan independence." The statement comes in response to remarks by an unnamed US official urging Beijing to exercise restraint concerning the cross-strait situation.
