The Supreme Court of India has recently directed the Central and Uttarakhand state governments to develop a rehabilitation plan for residents facing eviction from railway land in Haldwani. The bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan, instructed the railway authorities and government officials to pinpoint the exact land needed for expanding railway tracks and identify the families that will be affected. The court set a four-week deadline for completing this task and scheduled the next hearing for September 11.

The recent Haldwani violence in Uttarakhand has gripped the nation's attention, shedding light on a series of disturbing events triggered by the demolition of an illegal mosque in the Banbhoolpura area of the town. 

Northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari announced on Thursday that Wakeel Hassan, a key figure in the Silkyara tunnel rescue mission, whose house was demolished in a recent demolition drive by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), will soon receive a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). 

The recent demolition drive conducted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in Khajoori Khas has stirred controversy, particularly with the razing of the house belonging to Wakeel Hassan, a rat-hole miner who played a pivotal role in the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation.

The violence broke out on February 8 after the demolition of the madrasa in Banbhoolpura. Locals hurled stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police on the day, forcing many personnel to seek refuge at a police station, which the mob then set on fire.

Most of the people hospitalised after the violence at Malik ka Bagicha in the city's Banbhoolpura area were police personnel. The remaining were municipal workers involved in the demolition of the local madrasa and a mosque in its complex, they said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the programme held at Parade Ground here and also lit diyas and sang devotional songs on Lord Ram.
