The move has sparked concerns among local residents, particularly in the peripheral areas of the valley districts.

Polling is scheduled for April 19 across the state's 50 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies.

The move follows the MHA's directive to send 100 companies of central forces, totalling 10,000 troops, to West Bengal by April 15, with 25 of these companies being diverted from Manipur.

Numerous layers of barricades, concrete blocks, iron nails, and container walls have been placed at the Singhu and Tikri borders with Haryana as well as at the Ghazipur border with Uttar Pradesh.

When a few youths broke an iron barricade and tried to throw it off the Ghaggar River bridge, the police lobbed several rounds of tear gas shells. They also used a drone later on to drop a tear gas shell. 

Curfew remains in force in Banbhoopura area but has been lifted from the outer areas of the town. Nearly 1,100 security personnel are already deployed in the town.
