Mekedatu is a multi-purpose (drinking water and power) project proposed by Karnataka, which involves building a balancing reservoir. The project is aimed at ensuring drinking water to Bengaluru and neighbouring areas.

Karnataka govt intends to release 8,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. To oppose the stand, CM MK Stalin has convened a meeting on July 16.

The Karnataka Government announced on Sunday its decision to release only 8,000 cusecs of water from the Cauvery River to Tamil Nadu, rather than the previously stipulated one thousand million cubic metres of water. This decision came after an all-party meeting held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru to address the directives of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC).

The monsoon session of the Karnataka assembly will start from July 15.

“All parties are together on Karnataka’s water issue. Therefore, an all-party meeting will be held (on July 14),” the Chief Minister said.
