Bilawal said the PTI, under Imran Khan, has repeatedly shunned negotiations with other political groupings, restricting prospective alliances.

"The PPP and PML-N have achieved the required number, and [now] we are in a position to form the government," Bhutto-Zardari was quoted as saying by Geo News.

After a three-hour deliberation on Monday, the negotiations hit a snag prompting a temporary halt, with both PML-N and PPP agreeing to reconvene at 10 pm on Monday. However, the meeting did not take place.

US President Joe Biden is aware of the elections in Pakistan, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily news conference on Tuesday.

The decision came after a high-powered meeting of PPP's Central Executive Committee (CEC), led by Bilawal, where it was acknowledged that the party had not secured the mandate to form a government at the federal level.

Despite independent candidates backed by jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party winning the most seats in Parliament, questions loom over what the next government of Pakistan will look like.
