According to officials, the FIR was filed by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) unit under provisions of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a significant announcement on Thursday, reiterated the central government's commitment to ensuring a seamless rollout of the new criminal laws under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a recent verdict, the Supreme Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the enactment of new criminal laws by the Parliament, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

Scheduled to take effect from July 1, as confirmed by notifications from the Union Home Ministry, these laws will replace the outdated colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act of 1872.

The home minister said there are cross-border challenges for justice delivery, trade, commerce, communication and added that for trade and crime, there is no border.

A driver who accidentally hits a person and subsequently informs police or takes the victim to the nearest hospital will not be prosecuted under the stringent provision of the recently enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
