In a late night post on X on Sunday, Congress general secretary, organisation, K.C. Venugopal alleged that since the yatra’s entry in Assam, the BJP government in the state is launching attacks on the Nyay Yatra. In protest of this, the Congress will take out demonstrations across the country on January 22.

The Assam Chief Minister, on the other hand, in a retaliatory move accused the Gandhi family of being 'most corrupt' and using a 'duplicate' surname.

"They (Congress) are creating unnecessary fuss. We do not know if and when they are coming. We do not even know the route they propose to take,'' said the chief minister.

Addressing a press conference here, Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia said the party is now looking for alternative arrangements of private farmlands for stationing the containers, where senior national leaders, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, will halt for a night.

The yatra is organised ahead of the 2024 general election and will cover 110 districts, 100 Lok Sabha seats, and 337 Assembly segments in 66 days. 

AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said Manipur has been chosen to start the march to "heal the wounds" of its people who have been affected by the ethnic violence.

The BJP on Wednesday made light of the 'Bharat Nyay Yatra' announced by the Congress as "mere sloganeering" and said it will not "fool" people.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge will kickstart the yatra from Imphal, which will be mostly covered by bus along with short stretches of walking.
