Punjab happens to be a border state with distinct and multiple challenges. The government of India apparently did not want there to be any confrontation between the Chief Minister and the Governor in this state. This can be one of the reasons for his premature replacement.

President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Banwarilal Purohit from his position as the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Along with this acceptance, several new governors have been appointed across various states in the country.

Breaking the silence on his resignation, he said, “They said ‘accept nahi karenge’ (will not be accepted) so I am here. I wanted to go purely for family reasons. My wife came from Nagpur and went after 10 days. I wanted to go for my family…for no other reason.” 

As soon as the governor began delivering his address, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring raised the farmers' issue and said that homage be paid to Shubhkaran Singh - 21-year-old who died during clashes between the protesting farmers and Haryana security personnel. 

Purohit has tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday. He has also resigned as Chandigarh Administrator
