The individuals, who were captured at different points along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border, are currently being questioned and will be handed over to the respective state police for further legal action, according to a BSF spokesperson.

The state’s 480-kilometre-long coastline is currently under a robust three-tier security system.

An official speaking on condition of anonymity disclosed that 294 immigrants were arrested in 2023, with 76 identified as Rohingyas and the remainder as Bangladeshi nationals.

Earlier in April this year, the High Court had queried whether the Central Government could take direct action under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) against Bangladeshi infiltrators in five districts of Santhal Pargana.
