Two 'IED-like devices' were found in Guwahati on Friday, taking the total number of 'bomb-like substances' seized across the state in the last 24 hours to 10, officials said.

Sarma, who serves as the BJP's election co-incharge in Jharkhand, is on a two-day visit to the state, participating in workers' felicitation programmes and Vijay Sankalp Sabhas.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take stock of the situation, promising central assistance and support from the National Disaster Response Force.

Traversing the inundated regions in Upper Assam by speedboat, Sarma visited relief camps set up after an embankment breach between Negheriting-Rongagorah Duke and Nikori PWD Road.

The endangered bear, typically found in Southeast Asia's tropical forests, was spotted by residents near the Makumpani area and the Margherita Tea Estate. 

The investments have been committed through 21 proposals, approved by the state cabinet, under the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam (IIPA), 2019.

The cabinet also gave administrative approval for funds for various projects, including a water supply scheme in Jorhat town, building of Karimganj Medical College, Rang Ghar beautification project and the Amingaon sports complex.

Welcomed cordially by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the premier's visit is set to mark the inauguration and laying of the foundation stone for projects amounting to a staggering Rs 18,000 crore.

Amidst renewed protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a bold statement, asserting that there is no relevance of any protest against the law at this point.

With this, three seats are left for the saffron party's allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL). 

"Whoever may be the party chief, there is no change in the party's agenda. If you look at Nadda ji (present BJP chief), he was a mere worker. He was not any leader's son or father," Sarma said. 

"Showing faith in the Narendra Modi-led central government, the two Congress MLAs have decided to support the government. For all public welfare programmes and constructive works, they will support both state and central governments," Sarma told reporters here.
