India's fiscal deficit showed a notable improvement in the first quarter of the current financial year, reflecting a decline compared to the same period last year. According to data released by the Finance Ministry, the fiscal deficit for April to June stood at 8.1 percent of the full year's estimate. This marks a significant drop from the 25.3 percent recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently launched a strong critique against the Congress in the Lok Sabha, highlighting the significant improvements made in the railway sector under the current government. His remarks were in response to criticism levelled by the opposition, particularly focusing on the conditions faced by loco pilots.

"Railway projects are sanctioned and executed Zonal Railway wise and not State/District/City wise as Railway projects may span across State boundaries," Vaishnaw said.
