While TMC leader Firhad Hakim predicted that the NDA coalition government would not last long, BJP leader Arjun Singh suggested Hakim to be concerned about his political future.

Singh, having recently defected from TMC to rejoin BJP, a party he had aligned with prior to the 2019 elections after departing from the state's ruling party, expressed his esteem for Roy, prompting his visit to seek the veteran's well-wishes for the electoral contest.

Arjun Singh, who had earlier joined the BJP in 2019 after quitting TMC and defeated the then-TMC candidate on the Barrackpore seat, returned to TMC again in 2022 even when he remained a BJP MP on Parliament record. Whereas, Tamluk MP Dibyendu Adhikari is BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s brother.

While giving an interview to media at his Barrackpore residence, Arjun Singh questioned why the TMC top brass sent state minister Partha Bhowmick, instead of the local MLA, to Sandeshkhali amid the protests? In response to this, Singh claimed that Shahjahan bought lands under Bhowmick’s patronage. This signifies latter's involvement in shielding Shahjahan Sheikh.

Arjun Singh had earlier quit the TMC ahead of the previous Lok Sabha elections. In 2022, he returned to the TMC but did not resign as MP.

Singh confirmed that he was contacted by TMC leaders following his exclusion from the party's candidate list announced from the Brigade Parade Ground rally in Kolkata on Sunday.
