The Trinamool Congress supremo referred to Gangopadhyay as a "BJP Babu" who was sitting on the bench, and made it clear that she would 'ensure he loses' if he contests the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Gangopadhyay's decision to join the saffron party came after announcing his intention to do so immediately following his resignation from the high court on Tuesday. 

In an interview given to one of local news channel in West Bengal, he said: “I have been challenged to come and fight on the (political) field several times by the ruling party’s (TMC’s) leaders, so I thought of fulfilling their demand.”
