The income tax department has urged taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar by May 31 to avoid higher tax deduction rates, while reporting entities are reminded to file SFT by the same deadline to avoid penalties. 

Nasscom-Arthur D. Little report titled 'Digital Public Infrastructure of India, Accelerating India's Digital Inclusion' said that mature DPIs such as Aadhaar, UPI (Unified Payments Interface), and FASTag have witnessed exponential adoption by 2022, and the next 7-8 years offer an opportunity for further scalability, reaching even the most remote segments of the population.

The government's decision, initiated with an order on January 30,2023 and subsequent extensions throughout the year, faced it's final deadline 31st December, 2023.
