Himachal govt teacher booked for molesting 16-yr-old student

Following the claim of sexual harassment by a 16-year-old 12th-class female student, a government school teacher in Himachal Pradesh was booked on molestation charges, the police said on Tuesday. 

 

Shashi Kant Sharma, a commerce teacher, was booked at Hamirpur Women Police Station at the student's complaint, Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur said. 

 

A case of sexual harassment with a minor has been registered under section 75 of BNS and section 12 POCSO Act and intentionally insulting or intimidating a member of a Scheduled Caste under section 3(1) of SC/ST Act, police said.

 

After the issue came to light, the girl's family and other locals caused a fuss at the school and reportedly assaulted the teacher. 

 

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Higher Education Hamirpur Anil Kaushal has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
