HC orders Haryana to remove Shambhu border barricades

Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday, has ordered the Haryana government to remove the barricades set up at the Shambhu border near Ambala within a week.  

 

The barricades were erected in February on the Ambala-New Delhi national highway when the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha announced plans to march towards Delhi in support of various demands, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.

 

The court's directions came in response to a petition filed against the sealing of the border between Punjab and Haryana. Haryana Additional Advocate General Deepak Sabharwal confirmed to reporters that the court has directed the removal of the barricading within seven days.

 

However, the court also noted that the government can take preventive action as per law if any law and order situation arises. 

 

This caveat allows the government to take necessary measures to maintain public order and safety if needed. The removal of the barricades is expected to ease travel and transportation between the two states.
