Goods train wagon derails near Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri

A goods train wagon derailed near Rangapani station in West Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri Rail Division on Wednesday, a senior official reported. There were no injuries or fatalities, confirmed the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) official.

 

The empty petroleum wagon, part of the goods train, was en route to Rangapani siding when it derailed at 11:45 am, according to NFR CPRO Sabyasachi De. Despite the incident, railway traffic in the region remained unaffected.

Railway personnel quickly cleared the tracks by hauling the derailed wagon away, ensuring no disruption in services, De added.

 

This incident occurred not far from where three coaches of the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express derailed on June 17 after a goods train collided with it, resulting in 10 fatalities.

 

Sixty others sustained injuries when the goods train collided with the stationary Kanchanjungha Express near New Jalpaiguri station in Darjeeling district last month.

 

The collision impact caused three rear coaches of the passenger train to derail near Rangapani station, approximately 30 km from North Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri station.
