The Met office has forecast that  the maximum temperature will settle at 46 degrees Celsius.

Capital New Delhi has been reeling under heatwave to severe heatwave conditions with strong surface winds on Monday, with the Met office forecasting that  the maximum temperature will settle at 46 degrees Celsius today.

 

Minimum temperature was recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius, 2.6 notches above normal.

 

At 8.30 am on Monday, the relative humidity stood at 48 per cent.

 

The weather office has forecast mainly clear skies and heatwave to severe heatwave conditions with strong surface winds. 

 

The Capital had earlier registered a high of 44.4°C on May 19, 2024, which was about 5 degrees C above normal, leading to heat wave conditions.

 

The highest temperatures recorded earlier are at 49.2 degrees C on May 15, 2022, at Met Delhi Mungeshpur.

 

Reports also said heat over the northern plains has triggered a low-level cyclonic circulation over parts of North Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab region. It was a dry circulation and no weather activity was likely.
